Ke Tumi Nandini…aage to dekhini

For all those lesser mortals who still havnt been fortunate enought to understand the sweet language-Bangla…I am sorry. You will not get this article…so move on…!! Other people who have not heard Manna Dey song…please go drown yourself in the open drain near chingrighata..!!

This line of this legendary song signifies…..youth..!! What people call back here “bokate”..”loafer”….”pod paka”….”byadob”…etc.etc...but I am sure many of us have never been subjected to such profanities..!! why?? because we thought that was too “crass” to do…!!

Yes some of you may even term this as “eve teasing”….I wouldnt say that those people are totally wrong…but again why would you always take out all these small little fun out of life..!! I would say this is a way appreciating the beauty around you…!!

Ke tumi nandini..is a question…every boy asks either to himself…or to his friends…!! only if the nandini had told us…who she was…with that her name…her phone number..and with it her long list of requirements of the perfect date…!!

But yes it is true generally beautiful and pretty woman would be subjected to such attention..or the girl who had nice long legs..or that girl whoose had a sedan at her disposal…or even that girl who wore the jeans so low…that half of the male population would think about it for many nights to come..!!

And if the girl smiled at you…or waved at you…the whole moment would have been freezed. And if the smile was not directed to anyone, but a normal courtsey shown by the girl…recognising her classmates who were probably oggling at her booty…that small act of courtsy..that one single sweet smile will be a cause of dispute between all those present there…everyone claiming their own right as the recepient of that revered smile..!!

But there is much more to this phrase…its the way yound boys in their teens are….trying to know the girl who took their heart at first sight…that pretty girl whom everyone in the class would try to hit on…and she would be picked up by the biggest loser..!! And everyone would then react…”are you serious…him? is she nuts…blind? paralysed? what? how can he get her?” and then there goes the trophy..in front of everyone..to a douchebag…!! So the search for the Nandini goes away or I will rather say is stalled till the new batch comes in..!!

And the worst situation comes when the Nandini is picked up that one lucky guy within a group…he more or less becomes an outcast…and when the dumping happens…what is more famouly known as “lengri”…the whole group comes back again..to console…and tell that “she was not the right person for you”..”dude she is going to come back..”…”this happens…she is just taking a break..”….or the other way where the profanities doled out would be so great that even the crowds at a Mohan Bagan East Bengal match would raise their hats in respect..!!

So this goes out to all those Nandinis who have come and gone..whom we have letched at…and who knows maybe still letch at….hoped that she would be the girl of my dreams but turned out to be the girl never to be..!! So to all the Nandinis who are discussed in a all boys reunion with the same old exitement..here goes…for you all..for having given us the small little moment in our life…!!
